Step 102 — Where & how you sell
Step 2After production, shipping, and fees.
Stop guessing what you make on each print. Plug in your run size, paper, and selling price. See your real profit per print, margin, and break-even point — after platform fees and shipping.
After production, shipping, and fees.
Most artists run the same rough math in their head: "I sold a print for $25, it cost me about $5, so I made $20." That math is almost always wrong, because it ignores three things that quietly eat your margin — platform fees, shipping to you, and the per-print cost difference between small and large runs.
This calculator factors all three in. Production cost comes from real Printkeg pricing across 9 product categories and 396 size/paper/quantity combinations. Shipping is tiered based on your run subtotal. Platform fees use current Etsy, Shopify Payments, Square, and standard gallery consignment rates.
Flat-rate tiers based on Printkeg's actual published shipping rates: $10 under $100, $14 from $100–$199, $19 from $200–$299, $29 at $300+. If you're using a different printer, toggle "Using a different printer?" — shipping still applies at these tiers, but you can ignore them if your printer ships free.
Break-even is the number of prints you need to sell to cover the cost of the full run (production + shipping). After that quantity, every additional sale is pure profit (minus the per-sale platform fee). So if your break-even is 12 out of 50, the remaining 38 prints are where you actually make money.

No. Toggle "Using a different printer?" and enter your own per-print cost. The calculator works with any printer — we just pre-populate Printkeg's pricing because it's what we know.
Three usual suspects: (1) platform fees on small-dollar sales eat a surprisingly large percentage — a $0.55 Etsy fee on a $5 sticker is 11% gone instantly, (2) shipping the run to yourself divided across a small quantity adds real cost per print, (3) you're printing in small runs where per-unit production is highest.
Three levers: print in larger runs (per-unit cost drops fast), raise your price (the calculator shows exactly how much each dollar adds), or move sales off Etsy onto your own site to skip the 6.5% transaction fee.
